Lily was just a few pages into the book of fairy tales when she fell asleep. The worst discomfort from the full moon was over. She made a point to never be alone on the full moon because she remembered all too well how close it had been when Tonks delivered Harry Alastor a full month early.

So she'd spent the day on the couch in the library reading and napping (mostly napping) while the baby practiced kick boxing her kidneys from the inside. She was even more exhausted than usual. So much so that she didn't stir when Sirius and Scorpius dragged themselves in.

She missed the kiss to her forehead from Sirius.

She missed the way hands carefully elevated her feet and spread a blanket over her.

She didn't notice the weight that settled beside her so careful not to disturb her.

She never felt the book being taken out of her hands.

Or heard Scorpius' voice picking up where she'd left off, with the book held in one hand and his free hand hovering delicately over the big swell of her belly as he read.

Lily did feel the kick on that spot and heard a surprised little gasp.

She opened her eyes and watched as Scorpius stared at his hand - his gaze, his posture, his everything willing the baby inside of her to make his or herself known again.

She didn't miss the way his lips parted just a tiny bit or the way he whispered encouragement to the baby.

She didn't miss how his hand shook a little.

She didn't miss wonder filled expression on his face when the baby finally did what he'd been waiting for and kicked again.

Even though she was exhausted and she knew Scorpius had to be too, Lily dropped her head forward and just nuzzled her cheek against his in an old affectionate gesture. "I think they like your voice, read a little more?"

Scorpius nodded a little dumbstruck and picked up reading again.

No matter how sleepy she was, Lily definitely did not miss the moment Scorpius fell in love with their child.
